Shipping is one of BMT's largest market sectors, involving every one of BMT's subsidiary companies. Supported by our worldwide network of offices and an in-depth understanding of the shipping industry, we offer a comprehensive range of services covering all aspects of the shipping life cycle.

BMT's design support services include extensive experience of the specific issues associated with individual ship types. We provide specialist design support such as model testing, computer simulation, material sciences, fatigue analyses and cold-climate technology.

BMT offers an extensive range of in-service / operational support to the shipping industry, such as training (e.g. vessel manoeuvring, environmental awareness), reliability assessment and optimisation of maintenance schedules, and problem solving (e.g. structural cracking, vibration).

We have comprehensive trials and instrumentation capabilities, including, for example, inclining experiments, propulsion / seakeeping trials, structural integrity monitoring and materials testing.

BMT also offers a range of ship performance monitoring products, including hull stress monitoring, propulsive efficiency monitoring, hull roughness analysers and container stack load monitoring. Other products in support of ship operations include onboard tools for manoeuvring simulation (training and rehearsals), cargo arrangement and voyage planning. All of our products are supported by in-depth understanding of the technical and operational issues.
