30/11/2009 - BMT's software expertise boosts Wiltshire road safety campaign
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service (Wiltshire FRS) and its partners have called on BMT’s information systems (IS) expertise to support the county-wide Safe Drive Stay Alive road safety campaign.
...Wiltshire targets business drivers...
Launched in 2006 and initially aimed solely at young drivers, riders and passengers, Safe Drive Stay Alive is organised by Wiltshire FRS, Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Council’s Road Safety Unit, Great Western Ambulance Service and charities Brake and Roadpeace.
In 2009, Wiltshire FRS and its partners decided to expand Safe Drive Stay Alive by targeting business drivers, another high-risk group.
Ian Hopkins, Road Safety Development Manager at Wiltshire FRS, says: “We wanted to do this by running more of our successful safety roadshows and then using a central campaign management system (CMS) to e-mail participating business drivers, direct them to our new road safety website and therefore reinforce our messages. We needed an innovative, capable new CMS tool and so we turned to BMT.”
...BMT enables drivers to make better decisions...
Simon Luck, Principal Systems Analyst at BMT says: “Our role in the Wiltshire FRS CMS project was to put information in context – providing business drivers with easily accessible, clearly presented road accident data to help them make better decisions.”
The Safe Drive Stay Alive CMS is hosted on BMT’s internet server. To optimise the user experience for both visitors and Wiltshire FRS administrators, it uses the latest ASP.Net 3.5 and AJAX technologies.
By adopting an open-source geographical mapping system, BMT has removed the need for Wiltshire FRS to pay licence fees and enabled it to display its own, easily updated accident information on a map of Wiltshire.
...BMT’s service was versatile, efficient and effective...
Ian Hopkins says: “I’m extremely impressed with the end product developed by BMT. From the initial planning meeting through to completion, BMT’s service was versatile, efficient and effective in meeting our requirements.”
